There has been a series of complaints about Galaxy Note 7 replacements’ battery overheating and quick battery loss. As a result, some users suspect that Samsung Electronics might have secretly installed a program that prevents the batteries of Galaxy Note 7 replacements from charging above 60% of their capacity or Galaxy Note 7 replacements come with batteries with lesser capacity.

Korean news channel YTN reported on Sept. 22 that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 exchange programme kicked off four days ago, but some Galaxy Note 7 replacements still had battery overheating and abnormal battery drain problems.

According to YTN, a user who exchanged his or her recalled model for a brand-new (and fixed) unit on the second day of the recall found out that the replacement’s battery drained too quickly.

While the replacement was charging with the lightning bolt icon displayed over the battery symbol, the user found that the battery drained 1 % almost every second.

The user said: “After the battery level dropped to 1%, it never exceeded 10% though I left the phone charging overnight. I took the phone to a Samsung service center and showed a video of the phone’s battery draining abnormally fast. I tried to demonstrate it by plugging it in, but the technician unplugged it probably because the technician was afraid that the phone could burst into flames.”

YTN actually conducted a test on a fixed Galaxy Note 7 model, whose battery was charged to 75%. The estimated time until full was 39 minutes. When the phone started charging, the remaining battery power continued to decline. After 39 minutes of charging, the remaining battery power dropped to 49%.

Many users experienced the same. One Galaxy Note 7 user said: “I went out after charging my phone’s battery to 90% at home. Later, I checked my phone, only to find out the remaining power was only 50%. As the phone got so hot, I was afraid of using it.”

Another user said: “My phone’s battery drained 15%-16% in less than 30 minutes. According to my calculation, this fixed Galaxy Note 7 model can stay on only for 5 hours. I didn’t spend hours playing mobile games.”

Samsung Electronics said: “We don’t think the fixed Galaxy Note 7 models have battery problems. We will launch an investigation into those claims.”
