LG Display breaks the jinx of which the smallest a LCD module can get is only up to 3mm because of technical limitation. However, LG Display surprised the world on December 21 by showing its latest 2.6mm 42inch LCD panel, called 'Extreme Slim'. This new panel is equipped with white-light-emitting LED and its own development of optical film technology.
Every IT industries have concluded that Samsung Electronics' 3.9mm 40 inch TV module that was shown last October was the slimmest TV panel in Korea. In spite of this, LG Display challenged this assumption by developing 'Extreme Slim', making a significant breakthrough in the electronics display industry.
What is intriguing about this product is that it has a thickness of the Korean 500 won coin. LG Display's vice president Jung In-jae said, "LG Display has killed two birds with one stone of high definition and slim design, altogether securing the next generation of cutting-edge technology." LG Display will feature this product for four days in Las Vegas to participate in the 'CES 2010' showcase starting from 2010 January 7; thus, upgrading Korea's technology to another level.
