July 7 of last year, DDoS attack was a very disruptive cyber attack for many companies, the public, and even the government. However, there is a possibility of a release of a newer and stronger cyber attack known as Vendor-Driven Denial of Service (VDDoS). VDDoS' specific characteristics once attacking include displacing important information and devastating the server and PC system. On January 8, Korea's Information Assurance Society held a conference to discuss defense mechanisms and solutions to counter these cyber attacks.
Kim Hoong-kwang, a representative for North Korea Intellectual Solidarity (NKIS) stated, "Last year's DDoS attack was attacked by North Korea's cyber unit which attacked Korea's Internet. There is a high possibility for them to make an attempt for a second attack."
At the conference, representatives spoke on how to create solutions and defense systems to counter a possible cyber attack. They also spoke about how to minimize the damages if a cyber attack was to pass all the barriers and defense mechanisms. Representative Kim stated, "The most urgent matter is that the country needs defense systems that can maximize its defensive mechanisms if a cyber attack was to hit in the near future."
