AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 01, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:XPLR) announced today that it has partnered with Caribbean-based wireless carrier Digicel Group to provide a major energy company’s IT and field service team with productivity-driven technologies in Latin America. A batch of 100 Xplore XSLATE D10 fully rugged Android™ tablet PCs have already been deployed to the customer through Digicel Suriname’s Business Solutions team, which was selected to provide the mobile solution to the power provider.

“Utilities around the world are increasing their investments in rugged tablet technologies to gain new business advantages and, ultimately, more profitable operating models. This particular customer will leverage the XSLATE D10 to employ more cost-effective methods for maintaining infrastructure assets,” stated Mark Holleran, president and CEO, Xplore. “This deployment not only proves the viability of Android-based field service IT architectures to utilities around the world, it also demonstrates the value that Xplore rugged tablets bring to those wanting to magnify the proficiencies of their workforce.”

The Latin American energy company is using the Intel®-powered Xplore XSLATE D10 Android tablets to enable real-time fulfillment of work orders, enhance inspection capabilities and improve the quality of data captured by its field service technicians. Fortunately, the rugged tablet’s bright sunlight-viewable display, IP65 and MIL-STD-810G rated-exterior, 65GB Solid State Drive, and eight built-in I/O ports allows the utility’s field technicians to maintain full operational functionality, even in their service region’s tropical climate. The tablet configurations that Digicel delivered to the customer were also equipped with top handles and additional hot-swappable batteries to minimize end-user downtime and maximize ease of handling during long shifts.

“Xplore sees this as an ideal opportunity to pursue additional opportunities with Digicel Group’s Business Solutions division across the 33 markets it serves in the Caribbean, Central America, and Oceania regions,” added Kirk Meyer, director of sales in Latin America for Xplore. “After a competitive evaluation process, the utility end users clearly preferred the Xplore rugged tablet solution. They viewed the tablets as the only product capable of meeting and exceeding the technical and performance standards required for field service operations.”
