Hopscotch announced today that it has created the official mobile app for more than 40 college athletic programs that enable fans to follow their favorite varsity sports teams, and access everything from breaking news, season schedules and player stats, to live scores, tickets and promotions.

Many of the nation’s top tier colleges are going live this season including football powerhouses Oregon, Auburn, Baylor, Ole Miss, Michigan State and many others. The official mobile apps will be available in the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store this month.

“College sports fans are one of the most passionate fan bases in the world. Our mission is to give these fans exactly what they want, whether they are at the game or at home,” said Laurence Sotsky, founder and Chief Executive Officer at Hopscotch.  “We are thrilled that so many schools have entrusted us to be the developer of their official athletics mobile app.”

The Hopscotch platform also provides in-venue functionality that offers access to in-seat ordering from concession stands, parking pass purchases, and wayfinding - the latest approach to helping people navigate their way around more easily for a better experience.

With more than 190 million fans in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), colleges are finally able to grow and monetize their mobile presence with additional revenue through sponsorships and advertising. The goal is to leverage mobile technology to drive fan engagement and optimize colleges’ revenue opportunities.

Michael Thompson, Senior Associate Athletic Director at Ole Miss commented, “The phone is the most personal doorway to our fans. Today’s consumer wants to customize everything, so why should our app be any different. The app is their tool for an in-game experience; the geo-location based experience is truly groundbreaking.”

Hopscotch recently signed a deal with a major sports digital network to display exclusive multimedia content inside the schools’ app, further solidifying Hopscotch as the biggest mobile player in college sports. As a company, Hopscotch now has 50 employees with another 15 being actively recruited.  Hopscotch is venture capital-backed and received an initial $12.5M investment led by Mosaik Partners.
