India welcomes Korea's aid in expanding its fixed and wireless Internet broadband networks. Choi See-jung, the head of Korean telecom regulator met with India's telecom secretary, PJ Thomas, in New Delhi on February 19 in Oberoi Hotel.
Both representatives attended a forum under the name of 'Korea-India Convergence of Broadcasting and Communications' where Choi was quoted in the KCC statement as telling Thomas that Korea will provide its WiBro, DMB, IPTV and other technologies to boost India's broadband networks.
The countries recognized that by combining Korea's hardware and India's software power, they can equally expect growth and development in the IT sector. All in all, this meeting is significant for it will further strengthen ties between the two nations.
During their bilateral talks, Choi introduced Korea's experience in developing fast-speed internet and its future plan on building fixed and wireless infrastructure until 2012. Moreover, Choi offered India's contribution and cooperation in improving Korea's DMB sector and developing its next-generation technology.
Thomas, in response to Choi, told Choi that India will embrace Korea's participation in expanding its wireless Internet networks and that their cooperative plans are underway to distribute the wireless airwaves for 2.3 gigahertz band, which can be used to provide Korea's WiBro service in India.
WiBro stands for wireless broadband which enables larger data transfer without using cables and allows a higher degree of mobility. It is one of the next-generation wireless technologies created by Korean telecom companies.
