Semi-submersible drilling rig is an offshore oil drilling rig that drills for crude oil and natural gas. It performs a similar function as a drillship, but this semi-submersible drilling rig is able to drill deeper into ocean depth while withstanding strong winds, waves, and ocean currents. More specifically, this six-generation drilling rig can operate to depths of 3,000m and can dig up to 1km below sea level and also maintain parallel position amid intense environmental movements. 'Dynamic positioning system' is what creates all these conveniences; long story short, this system requires the main computer to analyze the wave movement and surrounding areas in advance and automatically controls the ship's position. Furthermore there is the 'mooring system' that allows drilling at oil fields of shallow sea water and 'integrated automation system' that controls the entire drilling rig and related systems via computer.
