SAN FRANCISCO, March 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MemSQL, the database for real-time applications, today announced at the Strata Data Conference that it can scan over a trillion rows per second using standard hardware, making it one of the fastest databases on the market.

According to 451 Research, the combined data platforms and analytics market will be worth more than $146 billion by 20221. In order to harness the most business value from the data behind this growth, companies need a way to capture and analyze every bit they collect. To maximize data value, companies building intelligent applications need a database capable of handling transactions and analytics in slivers of a second.

“Today, scanning a trillion rows per second is most relevant for larger data sets,” said Nikita Shamgunov, CEO and co-founder of MemSQL. “However, the industry is evolving rapidly, and we’ve built a database to support the applications that will make the biggest impact on your business. If your database is the bottleneck for your workloads, then you need MemSQL.”

Achievements of this magnitude push the technology industry forward, and it takes collaboration with industry partners. MemSQL leveraged the new Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8180 processors – part of the Intel Xeon Scalable platform – to scan 115.6 billion rows of synthetically-generated trade data in an average response time of 0.0991 seconds. That equates to a scan rate of 1.1 trillion rows per second*.

“Intel is proud of our collaboration with software partners, such as MemSQL, to drive breakthrough innovations,” said Jennifer Huffstetler, Vice President and General Manager of Datacenter Product Marketing, Intel Corporation. “The database speed MemSQL accomplished using deep software optimizations for the Intel Xeon Scalable platform will help customers capture more real-time actionable insights from their data.”

"One of the fastest" claim is based on the examination of several online sources, including Oracle.

*The benchmark results reported above may need to be revised as additional testing is conducted. The results depend on the specific platform configurations and workloads utilized in the testing, and may not be applicable to any particular user’s components, computer system or workloads. The results are not necessarily representative of other benchmarks and other benchmark results may show greater or lesser impact from mitigations. Benchmark results were obtained prior to implementation of recent software patches and firmware updates intended to address exploits referred to as "Spectre" and "Meltdown." Implementation of these updates may make these results inapplicable to your device or system. Software and workloads used in performance tests may have been optimized for performance only on Intel microprocessors. Performance tests, such as SYSmark and MobileMark, are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products.
