With development of the internet industry, more and more people now prefer to shop online. According to certain sources, over 50% of the population in Malaysia now shops online. In order to promote the e-commerce industry in Malaysia, in 2018, the government will invest 4 million MYR to help e-commerce enterprises with their marketing efforts. Also, with the Belt and Road Initiative in China, the cross-border e-commerce industry in Malaysia is expected to grow at a higher rate.

Malaysia is a country with an abundant supply of natural resources and unique products. East Malaysia in particular attracts many tourists every year, who visit and purchase local products. "E-commerce is trending nowadays, and logistics plays a crucial role for e-commerce companies. Additionally, the number of tourists has been increasing exponentially over the years, and a significant portion of these tourists are from China. This is a good time for SF Express to enter east Malaysia," said Y.B. Datuk Pang Yuk Ming during SF Express's Kota Kinabalu opening ceremony.

"We have been looking at opportunities in East Malaysia and have been working towards entering the market and providing more logistics options to local residents for quite some time," said Jason Lee, the General Manager of SF Express Malaysia.
