Hyundai•Kia Motors will supply vehicles to UN headquarters, their overseas offices and affiliated organizations. Korea has won the “Long-term purchase bid for vehicles”, which was first implemented by the United Nations (UN).

According to KOTRA on the 14th, KOTRA and Hyundai •Kia Motors were selected to be the suppliers of luxury sedans (Avante, K3, Pride) and CUV (Sorento) from the first vehicle integration bid hosted by the United Nation Procurement Division.

Accordingly, Hyundai •Kia Motors will provide 12 million U.S. dollars’ worth of vehicles for up to 5 years. Additionally, Hyundai Mobis is set to expand the procurement of the supply and maintenance of vehicle parts in the future.

The contract goes one step further from Hyundai Motors’ delivery of the UN peacekeeping military minibus in 2010; it is the recognition given by the UN to Korea for its competitiveness in the Sedan •CUV industry, which has beendominated for many years by foreign carmakers.

KOTRA is providing support to the United Nations’ procurement and delivery process, arrangement of interviews for key personnel, provision of detailed bidding information as well as providing support for the overall bidding process. Hyundai •Kia Motorsis the result of responding to the strict quality measures and post-management requirements of the UN.

Kim Doo-Young, director of KOTRA’s Strategic Business Division said, “the era in which TOYOTA was shown as a UN vehicle on TV is now over,” further adding, “Now, our cars will be associatedwith the organization’s activities, which will further enhance our brand and corporate image.”

Yvette Khourieh, UN’s Procurement officer, said, “the UN looks forward to a fruitful business partnership with a Korean Company that provides the best vehicles and comprehensive post-management service. We also look forward to discussing new corporation models with the UN.”
