HanCom, which is considered to be the strongest office software in Korea, made a full-fledged entry into the blockchain platform business.

On April 26th, Hancom Group held a ‘Hancom Technology Day’ event at COEX in Samsung-dong, Seoul, and announced plans to convert the software company into a smart city and blockchain business.

Kim Sang-chul, Chairman of Hancom, emphasized, “Hancom has continuously tried to attain the core capabilities of future values in the era of the fourth industrial revolution since the launch of Hangul (Hancom’s word processor application).”

Chairman Kim explained Hancom’s plans to develop into a company that embodies one ecosystem beyond office, cloud services, and platform.

According to Chairman Kim, Hancom plans to use this year as the first year of its entry into the advanced service market, which will implement smart cities, starting with the blockchain platform.

By the end of this year, Hancom will release a blockchain platform that combines its web offices, voice recognition, and Internet of Things (IoT) platform into one.

Song Sang-yeop, the managing director of HanCom Secure, said, “Based on the know-how we have studied on security solutions, we will create a safe and secure blockchain platform called ‘HancomEserezer’”.

HancomEserezer, based on IBM’s blockchain platform ‘HyperRezer’, is made from a private blockchain that restricts non-public participants.

Managing Director Song said, “We will create a private blockchain platform that comes in as a login system to enhance the weak security of the existing blockchain.”

It does not make a big difference in terms of users, but the efficiency of corporations and others is greatly improved due to changes in the service infrastructure, Song added.

According to Song, HancomEserezer’s target release date is at the end of June, and it could be introduced in the second half of the month at the latest.

Meanwhile, Hancom unveiled a new office program ‘Hancom Office 2018’ that includes artificial intelligence and chat capabilities in 2 years and 3 months after Hancom Office Neo.
