Apple’s iPhone X was the best-selling smartphone model in the first quarter of this year. Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S9 Plus, which was launched in March, was ranked 6th.
According to market research company Strategy Analytics on May 4th, the iPhone X sold 16 million units in the first quarter. This is contrary to what foreign analysts had predicted based on Apple component suppliers’ sluggish iPhone demand.
The top selling models that followed the iPhone X were also from Apple. The iPhone 8 came in second with 12.5 million units shipped, followed by the iPhone 8 Plus with 8.3 million units and the iPhone 7 with 5.6 million units.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A sold 5.4 million units, the most among Android smartphones, but ranked fifth in overall rankings. Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S9 Plus sold 6.3 million units, raking sixth.
“The Galaxy S9 series started shipping at the end of the first quarter of this year, but showed very good results. We expect the Galaxy S9 Plus to become the best-selling Android smartphone globally in the second quarter of this year,” Strategy Analytics said.
