Doosan Heavy Industries &Construction has won consecutive orders for energy storage systems (ESS) from domestic and overseas markets.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on May 13th that it has signed a supply contract with SK E&S to supply ESS equipment for electric power demand management.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will be in charge of supplying ESS and SK E&S will provide investment and energy efficiency solutions for this project, which will be built within Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in Changwon province, Gyeongnam. The company plans to install 70 MWh ESS by September.

Last month, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction signed a contract to supply ESS control software and battery system to BSS, which is a small and medium sized electric equipment manufacturer. Doosan Gridtec, a U.S. subsidiary, is also increasing its competitive edge in the domestic and foreign markets by winning orders for ESS to join the Consumers Energy Corporation and the Kalama States Substation Plant in Michigan.

“According to the energy market analysis agency, the global ESS market is expected to grow rapidly from 3.9 billion dollars in 2019 to 8.2 billion dollars in 2024. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will continue to aggressively pursue global ESS market. Furthermore, we will expand our business portfolio by construction and operating a solar power plant linked to ESS,” said Kim Sung-won, vice-president of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is also expanding its solar-related ESS business, which utilizes Doosan’s main subsidiary plant. Following the completion of its own power plant that links solar power and ESS to the running center of Changwon Head Office last year, the company entered into a 3.5 MW solar power plant construction project on April 16th, linking ESS of 8 MWh to Changwon Head Office/main gate parking lot and Doosan Intracore Gunsan Plant.

Meanwhile, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s subsidiary, Doosan Gridtech, has partnered with U.S. company Austin Energy since 2016 to develop ESS integrated solutions, ‘SHINES’, which has been selected as the most notable project (2018 Grid Edge Innovation Awards) of the year by GreenTech media, a leading U.S. media outlet for renewable energy.

Doosan Gridtech won an 18.7 million dollar ESS contract from LADWP last year to supply the beacon solar power plant near the Mojave Desert. In addition, it received an order from Consumers Energy in the U.S. last month to supply ESS to a substation plant South of Michigan.
