KT (CEO Hwang Chang-gyu) announced on May 21st that it has been selected as the operator of the “2018 ICT based medical system entry project” hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for two consecutive years. In 2017, KT was selected as a provider of ICT-based healthcare systems and has successfully completed digital healthcare solutions and platforms in 12 hospitals in Kazakhstan’s Almaty, Aktobe and East Kazakhstan.

Russian Railways, a digital healthcare pilot project in 2018, is one of the world’s three largest railway transporters, operating 173 hospitals throughout Russia.

KT signed a business agreement for a digital healthcare business with Russian Railways in December of last year and agreed to establish a mobile health diagnosis solution that allows primary care within history hospitals and trains.

KT will cooperate with Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang to establish a remote cooperation system between the five local hospitals of Russian Railways and Moscow Central Hospital (Base Hospital) until June of this year.

In addition, a pilot project to build a remote  a medical system on the Trans-Siberia Continental train will be conducted until the end of this year. KT will be in charge of the construction and supply of digital healthcare solutions, while the Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang will be in charge of Korean-Russian medical consulting and medical staff training based on the results of the diagnosis.

The Trans-Siberian Railway, which takes seven days from Vladivostok, Far East of Russia, to Moscow, which is its final destination, has limited diagnostic devices such as thermometers and blood pressure monitors.

However, it is difficult to identify patients needing rapid medical treatment of abdominal organs, such as they kidneys, liver, and gallbladder, or to check the health status of passengers who require frequent checks, such as cardiovascular patients and pregnant women.

KT has built a mobile health diagnostic solution that integrates ICT technology on Trans-Siberian transit trains to quickly diagnose diseases such as cardiovascular disease (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction)/ respiratory disease/ diabetes/ prostate cancer; diagnose the disease quickly or check abdominal organs such as kidney/ liver/ gallbladder by simple ultrasonic examination; create an environment in which fetal ultrasound/ musculoskeletal/ vascular baseline test can be performed on pregnant women.

“We are planning to enter the Russian market in full-scale next year in the overall health care business such as ICT hospitals (examination centers, nursing hospitals, etc), online telemedicine, and healthcare platform. We are accelerating the strategic alliance with local companies such as the AI and Big analysis module platform and the eHealth business cooperation with the largest state-owned bank in Russia,” said Ko Yoon-jeon, Director of KT Future business development.
