The Ministry of Education is investigating the facts about the suspicion of illicit college transfer from Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Korean Air.
The Ministry of Education is planning to send inspectors to Inha University next month to conduct field investigations. The Ministry of Education is stating that “if illegal or unjust facts are revealed, there will be severe punishment.”
The investigation will check on Chairman Cho’s alleged involvement in the illicit college transfer of Inha University in 1998 and also check the status of the transfer of the university.
When Cho Won-tae, the son of Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho, the chairman of the Inha University Foundation, transferred to Inha University, allegations have been raised both inside and outside the school that there were problems.
According to ‘Yonhap News’, Cho received a score of less than the approved number of credits at a two-year college in the United States, then in 1997, he received additional credits at Inha University as a foreign exchange student; the problem here aroused in March 1998 when Cho was admitted as a third-year student at Inha University even without meeting the credit requirements.
The alumni associating of Inha University is demanding the resignation of Chairman Cho Yang-ho and President Cho Won-tae, demanding the special audit on May 13th of the Ministry of Education for alleged irregularities in the admission of Inha University.
Regarding the allegation, Inha University said, “Chairman Cho’s allegations of illicit college transfer is not true. We will cooperate faithfully with the investigation.”
