‘The Fact’ reported in a recent issue that Pernod Ricard Korea is engaged in a heated truth battle between labor and management over allegations of “executive gabjil.”
Amid the recent revelation that an executive made abusive remarks and sexually harassed employees, some argued that more employees are taking sick leave or leaving their jobs after the inauguration of Jean Toulboul as the new CEO of Pernod Ricard Korea.
“The company is working to break up the union,” said a labor union official at Pernod Ricard Korea on June 5th. This official is holding a one-man protest daily at lunch time.
According to Pernod Ricard Korea Labor Union, executive A of the company has verbally abused his subordinates since his inauguration as a CEO in September 2016.
To a female worker who was suffering from subfertility he said, “You should have sex with your husband until finger nail scratches are seen on the back his back.”
In addition, the labor union stated that the CEO of Pernod Ricard Korea Jean Toulboul said that he wanted to disband the labor union as well as made comments such as “I want to attack the union, they are a hindrance.”

However, the labor union said, “Even though the company had to set up a third-party investigation team to investigate the truth closely, we did not have a proper system and tried to call the victims where they were. The victim said she will attend if they do a formal investigation from an agency other than the company.”
In addition, the labor union says that sick leave and the retirement rates of employees have increased since the appointment of CEO Jean Toulboul. In response, the company said, “The sick leave and retirement rates of Pernod Ricard Korea is not abnormally high compared to other companies.”
