The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on June 14 that it will take voluntary corrective action (recall) for manufacturing defects in a total of 213,322 cars of 11 models manufactured by the four companies--Mercedes-Benz Korea, GM Korea, Daimler Truck Korea and Kia Motors.

The ministry announced that 825 units of the new seven models, including the E220d Coupe, sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea, can be injured in the event of an accident due to a defect in the seat back.

The airbags of GM Korea's G2X 184 units are feared not to be operated well owing to a defect in the sensor in case of impact, it said.

Along with this, 127 units of two models including Arocs, which were imported and sold by Daimler Truck Korea, were labeled on the headlamps with a label that does not have the manufacturer on it, which violates the automobile safety standards.

Meanwhile, a series of the recent fires of Kia Motors Grand Carnival vehicles are presumed to have occurred due to a lack of air conditioning, and the recall of some 212,000 vehicles will be carried out, the ministry said.

Related to this recall, the manufacturer will inform the owner of the car of how to correct it by mail and phone text messages. If the owner of the vehicle made repairs at his or her own expense prior to the recall, the owner can apply for due compensation.
