LG Chem is introducing a new high-capacity ESS in Germany, the largest market for residential ESS (Energy Storage System)
LG said that it will participate in the ‘EES Europe 2018’ held in Munich, Germany from June 20th to June 22nd.
‘EES Europe 2018’ is considered one of the largest ESS exhibitions in the world and LG Chem won the ‘EES awards ESS division award’ for 2016 and 2017.
At this year’s exhibition, it will launch a new ESS with a large capacity and actively pursue the residential ESS market. The new product, which will be introduced by LG Chem and added to the 48V lineup, boats a large capacity of 13.1 kWh with the model name ‘RESU13’
According to the company, the battery capacity has improved by 34% compared to the conventional model ‘RESU10’ (9.8 kWh).
The capacity of ‘RESU13’ can be expanded up to 26.2 kWh by connecting 2 parallel units. Considering that the average electricity consumed by a household in Germany is 12.1 kWh per day, ‘RESU13’ can be applied to large-sized houses or small-sized businesses, according to LG Chem.
The ‘RESU13’ will be supplied to the domestic market in the third quarter of this year, and it is going to be able to enter markets with current RESU products (48V: 3.3 kWh, 6.5 kWh, 9.8 kWh, 400V: 7 kWh, 9.8 kWh) that were sold earlier.
Meanwhile, LG Chem is leading the global residential market by establishing partnerships with major global inverter manufacturers such as SMA and SolarEdge.
An official at LG Chem said, “The residential ESS is installed in the hose with the inverter, so cooperation with the inverter manufacturer is important. Through technical cooperation, we are increasing compatibility between ESS and inverter,” further adding, “With the launch of this high-capacity product, we will target Germany, the largest market for residential ESS, and plan to expand into global markets such as Australia and the USA in the future.”
