SK Telecom and Nokia have succeeded in demonstrating data transmission just five days after global standards of 5G were completed.

On June 18th (local time), the two companies utilized the 5G single standard (SA, Standalone) of the ‘3GPP’ 5G global standard at the Nokia Research Institute in Wroclaw, Poland, and succeeded in end-to-end data transmissions that processes 5G of all transmission and reception processes of mobile communication and ultra-low-latency data processing on June 19th.

It also confirmed possibility of variety of services based on SA standards such as Virtual Reality, High-Definition videos, self-driving, smart factory, and other applications. SK Telecom is the first Korean telecom company to successfully demonstrate the 5G global standard based on the SA standard, and it is one step ahead of the ‘5G early commercialization.’

In December of last year, SK Telecom was the first company to demonstrate its technology based on the ‘LTE+5G multi-standard (NSA, non-standalone) technology.

“As we succeeded in verifying technologies that meet 5G global standards, we have prepared momentum to prepare for 5G commercialization. We will speed up in all sections for initial commercialization such as introduction of 5G devices and network establishment,” said Park Jin-hyo, director of the ICT Technology Center at SK Telecom.

“This demonstration of 5G SA will validate the 5G technology capabilities of both companies and provide an important opportunity for 5G commercialization. We will actively support SK Telecom 5G network to achieve the best performance,” said Marc Rouanne, president of Nokia Mobile Networks.
