For the first time in the world, Hyunda Mobis (현대모비스) has developed a new material that can solve the fog issue that has been a challenge to lamp makers, and applied it to all its lamp products in production.

In addition, the weight of the lamp was reduced by 20% by developing and applying new materials for each component of the lamp.

On June 25th, Hyundai Mobis partnered with INITZ, a SK Chemical’s subsidiary, and announced that it succeeded in developing new plastic materials that does not emit or generate any gases in just one and a half year.

The problem with the lamp fog is that the gas generated from the plastic components inside the lap is absorbed by the wall, thus causing the discoloration to occur.

Not only does it negatively affect the aesthetics of the lamp, but also jeopardizes the safety by lowering the light distribution performance. This is due to the physical properties of plastic that produce gas at high temperatures, and is also caused by headlamps from global advanced companies.

Hyundai Mobis succeeded in developing new materials that meet various conditions but do not generate gas by adding glass fiber to existing plastic materials and applying high molecular weight additives.

Furthermore, Hyundai Mobis also succeeded in developing materials that can reduce the weight of the headlamp, which weights between 5 to 6kg, by more than 20 percent.

Hyundai Mobis lamps are a major export item that has received a total of 3.4 billion dollars from global carmakers since 2010 for its high-quality products.

“We will continue to showcase innovative lamp materials that will be applied to future cars by spurring technological development,” said Kim Se-il, director of Hyundai Mobis.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis is equipped with the world’s longest tunnel test system, and is also under development of next-generation lamp technologies such as the Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), which can prevent glare from other vehicle drivers, or rear lamp technology featuring 3D effects.
