The Munhwa Ilbo reported on June 27 that none of the undergraduate students at KAIST chose nuclear power and quantum engineering as their major in the first half of this year.

KAIST selects all new students every year without distinction of a major, and then allows students to choose the major they want in the second year.

None of the 94 students scheduled to enter the second year of this year's second semester chose nuclear power and quantum engineering.

Therefore, five applicants in the second half of last year became total members of KAIST nuclear power and quantum engineering department 2017.

"We had expected a certain drop in applicants after the government announced a policy to reduce nuclear power plants, but we did expect this much" said Jeong Yong-hoon, a professor of nuclear power and quantum engineering at KAIST.
