E-paper is targeting the niche market. As stated at consumer technology tradeshows such as FPD International and CES, Korean and Taiwan companies are doing very well. However, even though e-paper is more comfortable to read than conventional displays; nonetheless, e-paper is still having a tough time to make a notch in the market. This is because of the limited manufacturers, patent issue and LCD.
To broaden e-paper's market, the industry has to be able to produce cost effective goods. However, there are only two major players E-ink and SiPix and it is hard to control price competitiveness. Therefore, there needs to be more e-paper manufacturers for price reduction and to tighten patent control.
