LG Display (CEO, Vice Chairman Han Sang-beom) is actively engaging in startup development that combines original technologies and creativity in the display field.

LG Display announced on June 8th that it held ‘Dream Play Demo Day’ to announce the achievement of ‘Dream Play’, a new technology startup program promoted with BluePoint Partners (CEO Lee Young-kwan), a high-tech startup support specialist.

Dream Play is a startup program in which LG Display is discovering startups that will lead future innovation in the display field by supporting displays technologies and supporting BluePoint Partners’ technology startups since March.

The event was held at the LG Science Park in Magok and was attended by more than 150 employees from LG Display, LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Innotek, LG Care, LG Hausys, LG International, and employees related to startup affiliates and BluePoint Partners.

The event was organized by five teams of direct technical startups for the development of new display technologies and four technical startups of application technology using displays. The Grand Prize was awarded to the ‘SQand’ team, which introduced the Surround Audio System built-in CSO (Crystal Sound OLED), for its technical skills and marketability.

In addition, the Excellence award was awarded to the ‘Sherpa Space’ team for its smart farm lighting solutions using optical editing functions, and to the ‘PEROLED’ team for its next-generation display illuminator and process development. Winners will be awarded prize money from LG Display and receive mentoring, technical cooperation and early investment support for SEED investment and commercialization in the future.

“In an age of uncertainty, the use of Open Innovation and Collective Intelligence is very important. Starting with the Dream Play program, LG Display will continue to discover and nurture innovative startups with superior technology and make them a good example of a ‘win-win’ relationship,” said Kang In-byung, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of LG Display.

“The biggest mistake for a technology startup is to start from the point of view of its founder with a solution that the market doesn’t want. It is necessary to find the problems of the market first, to recognize and to open the business with an open and receptive attitude,” said Lee Young-kwan, CEO of BluePoint Partners, in a special lecture.
