It is reported that the National Tax Service has launched a special tax investigation against Hankook Ture, while the trial against former President Lee Myung Bak is under way.
Hankook Tire is the company of former President Lee Myung Bak’sson in law. Susan, the daughter of former president Lee, married the president of Hankook Tire Cho Hyeon-bum in 2001.
According to several industries on June 10th, the fourth investigation organization of the Seoul Regional Tax Office are sending inspectors to Hankook Tire’s Headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul tosecure various documents such as account books.
Hankook Tire explained that this is the first regular tax investigation in four years since the tax audit in 2014, but most believe that this will be a special tax investigation because the fourth investigation organization of the Seoul Regional Tax Office is conducting the central investigation.
The fourth investigation organization are special investigation organizations that are in charge of irregular audits such as tax evasion of big companies or cases related to raising slush funds.
Industry sources say that the National Tax Service will closely look into issues such as giving up internal work and excessive trademark fees, which have been debated among Hankook Tire Group.
