SK Telecom announced on June 19th that it has completed organizing an AI research center for Artificial Intelligence research and development.
SK Telecom has created two organizations under the AI Research Center: ‘Tech Prototyping Group’ and ‘Data Machine Intelligence Group’.
As a result of this new organization, the AI Research Center is composed of three organizations including T-Brain, which is a research organization.
In particular, the company announced the completion of the ‘AI Dream Team’ by appointing world class AI-related talents as the head of the new two groups, and adding Director Kim Yoon, who was in charge of AI development of the home-pot in Apple.
The director of the ‘Data Machine Intelligence’ group will be responsible for AI-based technology research, including machine learning. With Dr. Jin John, who oversees Data Sciences at Tapjoy, the world’s largest mobile advertising platform in Silicon Valley.
Dr. Jang Yoo-sung, a founding member of Wolfram Alpha, a global natural language-based knowledge engine, will be selected as the group head of the ‘Tech Prototyping’ program, which will test the possibility of verifying and commercializing AI technology.
SK Telecom has established an internal policy of “recruiting all the time, without limiting the hiring scale”, and has set out to acquire global talents to carry our research and development in the field of AI.
In response, SK Telecom will visit the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) and Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS), both of which are known as the two mountain ranges of scientific conferences in the field of machine learning, and directly start recruitment of global AI talents.
SK Telecom began global AI talent recruitment at ICML held in Stockholm, Sweden from June 10th to June 15th.
Kim Ji-won, a former graduate from MIT in charge of the T-Brain organization, visited a conference to introduce SK Telecom’s AI business and vision in the field of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning.
