Following Hyundai’s Motors’ first place in the Singapore taxi market for the eighth consecutive year, the company will also pursue the eco-friendly taxi market, which is drawing attention recently.

Hyundai Motors Co. LTD. signed a supply agreement with Comfort Delgro, the largest transportation company in Singapore, to supply the IONIQ hybrid taxis at the COEX InterContinental Hotel on July 26th. Hyundai Motors will supply up to 1200 IONIQ hybrid taxis to Singapore.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of both companies including Kim Hyung-jung, Hyundai Motors Vice president of Business Management Division, Lim Jit Poh, Chairman of Comfrot Delgro, and CEO Yang Ban Seng.

Hyundai Motors, which has been selling Sonatas and i40 taxis to Comfort Delgro since 2007, will supply up to 1200 IONIQ hybrid taxis by the first half of next year.

By the end of this year, Hyundai Motors plans to supply 500 IONIQ hybrid taxis to Comfort Delgro, and add up to 500 more in the first half of next year due to additional supply negotiations.

Including the 200 IONIQ hybrid taxis already bought in April, up to 1200 IONIQ hybrid taxis will be registered on Singapore roads. With this, Hyundai Motors has sold up to 24,000 taxis in the past 12 years since entering the Singapore taxi market.

IONIQ Hybrid, the first model for eco-friendly cars in Korea, recorded a fuel mileage of 58 MPG (Mile per Gallon) as a result of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) survey, achieving the top fuel economy among the internal combustion engines and hybrid vehicles sold in the US market. In addition to fuel efficiency, the hybrid 6-speed DCT improves acceleration performance and features a unique, future-oriented design.

Comfort Delgro has agreed to signed a contract to supply IONIQ hybrid taxis, which has the world’s best gas mileage and stable driving performance, as it is considered the new taxi model to represent Singapore.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motors announced its investment in ‘Grab’, the best mover in Southeast Asia in January of this year, and will continue to strengthen its partnership with taxi and mobility companies in Singapore in the future.
