KT (Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu) made an announcement that the ‘DATA ON’ plan, which was released on May 30th with an ‘All-time data unlimited plan’, surpassed one million subscribers on August 2nd. Due to strong market responses, the company has continued to grow rapidly, with 500,000 people joining in a month.
Market observers say that KT’s enthusiastic response to KT’s ‘Data ON’ plan is that it has designed a rate system that is optimized for customers’ needs by analyzing patterns of data usage that have changed. The ‘Data ON’ video and premium rate subscribers increased by 30% compared to the previous plan, and ‘Data ON’ talk usage increased by 88% compared to the previous plan.
Furthermore, on May 30th, KT announced the application of ‘Roaming ON’ to three countries overseas (China, U.S. and Japan) with the same rate as Korea (0.0018 dollars per voice call). As of August 6th, ‘Roaming ON’ has been applied to 12 countries worldwide including 7 Asian countries. This is equivalent to about 80% of the total number of overseas travelers.
Based on the ‘Roaming ON’ plan applied to the 12 countries, the number of users and voice call in foreign countries increased by an average of 1.7 times (75%). The number of users in major countries such as China, the U.S. and Japan increased by 1.7 times (73%), the number of calls increased by 2.5 times (151%). In particular, the number of users and voice calls in Canada increased up to 3.3 times (233%) and 5.5 times (455%), respectively. As users and traffic continue to increase due to the peak season of summer travel in July, KT plans to apply ‘Roaming ON’ to Indonesia in August in time for the Asian games
“In celebration of ‘DATA ON’ surpassing 1 million subscribers, we have prepared interesting contents and events for our customers’ more enjoyable data life. We are in a hot season, but we hope that customers will be able to forget the heat with our ‘ON JJOLMYEON’ and ‘ON Restaurant’ events,” said Kim Young-gul, executive Vice-president of KT Wireless business.
