KT made an announcement on August 8th that it has signed a contract to build a 47.4 million dollars optical cable network that was ordered by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) called ‘Convergence ICT Solutions’ (i.e. Convergence) in Manila, Philippines.

The project is part of a nationwide network project where Convergence extends coverage across the Philippines. KT will construct a fiber-optic cable network of about 1,570km in the northern part of Luzon Island, which is the largest island in the Phillippines and about half of the population living there, and establish optical cable and communication lines along major urban areas and main roads.

KT plans to use domestic fiber optic cable materials in this project, and plans to advance into the domestic market with domestic SMEs to strengthen joint growth.

KT has successfully built over 5,500 km of optical cable in overseas markets including Myanmar and Bangladesh.
