UN ESCAP: Millennium Development Goals

One of the valuable contributions UN ESCAP is making towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). UN declared MDG in 2000 and since then UN ESCAP has been trying to reduce extreme poverty in the Asia-Pacific region.

Also, the MDG's are decreasing the child mortality rate, fighting disease epidemics, building up a global partnership for development, global reduction in consumption of substances and depleting the ozone layer. UN ESCAP expects that in 2015 the number of extremely poor people will be 920 million via MDGs. The index represents nearly a 50 percent reduction from the 1990 level.

Since 1992, the United Nation member states have adopted the MDGs and in September 2000, there have been some excellent gains made by MDGs. Unfortunately success has been limited to certain areas, and it is still far from success. What's worse is the impact of the current crisis. The global recession has hit progress by downsizing donor funding and holding the ability of country's to mobilize resources for development.

For successful achievment of MDGs by 2015, financial subsidies from countries and strong political will and leadership are required. Therefore, Korea who has been contributing to MDGs is willing to give more hands on assistance to the 66th UN ESCAP in Songdo,

At the end of 2015, the MDGs will come to an end, financial subsidiary from the countries and strong political will and leadership are required. Therefore, Korea who has been contributing on MDGs is willing to give more hands on the 66th UN ESCAP in Songdo,

In order to have successful MDGs, it is required to have financial subsidiary from the countries and strong political will and leadership. Unfortunately, MDGs only have a shelf life of 15 years. Therefore, Korea who has been a will contributor to MDGs is even going to put more effort into the 66 UN ESCAP in Songdo.
