About 93 percent of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP)'s safety accidents occurred to employees of its subcontractors, Rep. Kim Kyu-whan of Liberty Korea Party said on Sept. 28.

Announcing the analysis results of the “Industrial Safety Accident Status” submitted by KHNP, Rep. Kim said that there have been 284 safety accidents at KHNP since 2010. A total of 302 people were killed and 93.0% (281 persons) were employees of its business partners.

Among the damaged employees of its business partners, 60 percent were those of its subcontractors, showing the serious risk facing subcontractor workers.

The 13 people who had died in industrial safety accidents since 2010 were all employees of business partners. The causes of death are suffocation, falls, etc. during work.

Regarding this, Rep. Kim pointed out, "Most of the accident victims are employees of business partners, and the externalization of danger at the nuclear power plant site has been persisted. Regardless of their affiliation, accordingly, continuous efforts are required to establish safety culture and enhance safety awareness.”
