Another fire broke out in BMW 520d, which was recalled due to frequent fire accidents during driving. The vehicle, which was also subject to safety diagnosis in August, received due inspection.

According to the automobile industry source on Oct. 1, there was a fire in the engine room of a BMW 520d car that Kim, 41, was driving on the road in front of Songpa District Office in Seoul around 7:40 p.m.

As soon as the fire broke out, Kim escaped from the car and was not injured. However, as the engine compartment of the car was burned, it suffered a property damage worth 9 million won. The fire went out in about five minutes.

Fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on the driver's statement that smoke started in the engine compartment.

Including the accident, five fires have occurred in the BMW vehicles that have so far been inspected for safety. The driver of the 520d vehicle, which was caught on fire on Sept. 23 while driving in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, was inspected for safety a month before the accident.

A 520d vehicle that completed a safety inspection in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, caught fire on Sept. 4. Another fire broke out in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province on Sept. 20.
