There is an era when people use VR devices instead of visiting theaters when they want to watch movies with friends or family.

SK Telecom and SK Broadband announced on October 12 that they will commercialize the Oksusu Social VR, which allows users to watch video content such as sports, movies and dramas with other participants in virtual reality.

Oksusu Social VR combines the functions of the Oksusu and the Social Community in virtual reality.

When one uses and connects to VR devices, one can enjoy and chat with other users about contents of the videos. Up to eight people can gather in one virtual space at the oksusu Social VR. You can choose the type of space and content you want to create a room and invite other users.

There are five types of virtual space: living room, theater, performance room, sports room and e-sports room.
The space will be expanded in various ways.

As it is a virtual space, it has various spatial composition. If you choose a living room, you can feel a comfortable house with modern interior.

The movie theater is designed to resemble a private mini-movie. The concert hall gives the audience a feeling of being able to meet the star in front of their eyes. The sports room resembles a sports bar where one can drink beer while watching real-time games. The eSports room reminds us of VIP seats in a large stadium that broadcasts games.

SK Telecom plans to add more space for various concepts in the future and allow users to decorate the space themselves. If you enter a virtual space, you can meet avatars of each user. It is a point of first person and can see 360 degrees.

Connectors can move their seats on the controller at any time. Unlike movie theaters or concert halls, you can talk comfortably while watching movies or performances. You can feel as if you were looking at a place.

VR industries are especially expected to have 5G and synergy effects. When 5G technology is introduced, VR contents can be enjoyed in real time through high-definition streaming method.

If 5G is commercialized on full-scale, it is planning to upgrade its VR to a level that provides UHD images with up to 16 times clearer quality than full HD images. It can also increase sense of immersion. For example, a virtual movie theater can be turned into an IMAX movie theater or a 360-degree screen.

The oksusu Social VR is available on Google Daydream and Samsung Gear VR. From October 12, you can download the app from Google Playstore or Oculus Store.
