Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Electronics' second-half strategic smartphone "Galaxy Note 9" has surpassed 1 million units in domestic sales in 53 days since its launch.

It is slower than the previous Galaxy Note 8 and faster than the Galaxy S9 released in the first half of this year. Domestic sales of Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S 9 surpassed 1 million units in  48 days and 60 days, respectively, after release.

Although Galaxy Note 9 was released early in the second half to preoccupy premium markets, its sales volume is not up to expectations. According to industry sources, the target sales volume of the Galaxy Note 9 is 12 million units, a million units more than that of the Galaxy Note 8. As sales of 1 million units have been delayed by about a week, it is becoming a matter of interest whether or not it will achieve its goal.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is holding an event to continue the success of Galaxy Note 9. It has decided to drastically enhance benefits of a special compensation program to commemorate the 1 million units sold in Korea.

For instance, Samsung Electronics is going to hold the "Double Compensation" campaign that compensates customers who purchased Galaxy Note 9 after Oct. 1 for up to twice the price of used smartphones when they return their existing smartphones.

Models that can receive up to double compensation include Galaxy smartphones such as Galaxy S 7, 8 series and Galaxy Note Fan Edition as well as iPhone 6 and 7 series.

Samsung Electronics is also planning to offer retrospective application to customers who have already participated in the Galaxy Note 9 "Special Rewards Program."
