SK Telecom is planning to expand 5G ecosystem with Deutsche Telekom.

SK Telecom announced on October 23 that SK Telecom CEO Park Jung-ho met with Deutshe Telekom Chairman Timotheus Höttges at its headquarters in Eulji-ro on October 22 to discuss ways to strengthen business cooperation to lead the global ICT ecosystem.

Chairman Timotheus Höttges also had a TownHall meeting with about 400 SK Telecom executives at the Supex Hall of SK Telecom headquarters.

They shared ICT issues in a free atmosphere and talked about digital transformation, management strategy and corporate cultural innovation.

"We expect to continue to strengthen our global leadership through working with SK Telecom and provide innovative services such as 5G to our customers." said Chairman Timotheus Höttges.

"By partnering with Deutsche Telekom, we will secure global 5G leadership and prepare momentum for new growth." said CEO Park. "The two companies' technological capabilities and infrastructure will be widely utilized in the future innovation industry." he said.

To strengthen global competitiveness of 5G, both companies agreed to invest strategically in 'IDQ' which is a subsidiary of SK Telecom and 'MobiledgeX', which is a subsidiary of DT.

IDQ is a Swiss quantum cryptographic communication company that SK Telecom acquired in February 2018.

MobiledgeX is a company that has platform technologies to provide mobile edge computing (MEC) environments to variety of developers and telecommunication businesses

Deutsche Telekom is considering introducing quantum cryptography communication system.

To that end, both companies are currently verifying quantum cryptography communication technologies on Deutsche Telekom's test network.

It is expected that security of national network, financial network, data center, and medical institution can be greatly strengthened by using quantum cryptography communication technology.
