SK Telecom succeeded in establishing one 5G network by linking other manufacturers' 5G equipments.
SK Telecom announced on October 24 that it succeeded in connecting Samsung Electronics' 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) exchange with Nokia and Ericsson 5G base stations on its Bundang 5G test bed.
Data communication goes through 'Terminal, Base Station, Operator, Internet'.
If the manufacturers of base stations and operators are different, it is necessary for mobile network providers to optimize each equipment.
Since last year, SK Telecom has been developing technologies and standards that enhance the quality of 5G equipment fwith global providers such as AT&T and Orange.
After selecting three 5G equipment manufacturers on the 14th of last month, SK Telecom applied and started testing technologies that linking Samsung Electronics, Nokia and Ericsson's 5G equipment and achieved results in about a month.
With this success, SK Telecom will be able to install Nokia and Ericsson 5G base stations within Samsung Electronics' exchange range.
"Even if same manufacturer's equipment is used, there can be huge quality differences depending on technology level of telecommunication providers." said Director Park Jin-hyo of ICT Technology Institute of SK Telecom.
