KT's "Smart Boracay" project provides tourists around the world with a radically improved Boracay tour experience.

The Smart Boracay is a project that was directly proposed and carried out by KT Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu to the Philippine government in June.

KT announced on October 29 that it presented the project to tourists at the opening ceremony of Boracay in the Philippines on October 26 (local time).

The opening ceremony at the Boracay Cagban port was attended by officials from the Philippines and KT, including Kim Sung-in, executive director of KT Global Consulting, and Roy Limatu, the Philippines' Environment Minister.

Through the project, KT installed public Wi-Fi for free for tourists in its major tourist destinations, White Beach and Cagban ports.

It is expected that convenience will increase for tourists who use mobile internet such as finding maps and using instant messaging at White Beach and Cagban Port.

KT built intelligent CCTVs that can recognize faces in the harbor and a solar system that can generate about 35,000 kW of electricity annually.

Students at Boracay Balabag Elementary School are taking classes through tablet PCs.

KT also provided ICT solutions to schools and hospitals for residents of Boracay. One classroom at Balabag Elementary School is applied with a smart school solution that allows up to 30 students to take advanced classes through a wireless network between the electronic board and tablet PC.

KT has provided a E-Healthcare solution and two remote ultrasound devices to the Ciriaco S. Tirol hospital. As a result, test results can be checked in real time through E-Healthcare solutions installed in tablet PCs.

"We expect this will be an opportunity to promote Korea's advanced ICT solutions to 2 million tourists a year visiting Boracay through the Philippines 'Smart Boracay' project," said Kim Sung-in, executive director of KT Global Consulting.
