Hyundai Mobis has established an "Open Innovation Center," M.Cube, at Silicon Valley in the U.S. to speed up the search and investment in global startups that have new vehicle technologies such as self-driving.

Hyundai Mobis said on Nov. 4 that M.Cube will play a key role for finding and fostering promising global startups in the self-driving, AI (Artificial Intelligence), connectivity, and vehicle security fields. Dr. Sean Ryu, a local startup investment expert in the U.S., will lead the center.

Hyundai Mobis has decided to expand its investment function to its research division that is currently operating in Shenzhen, China and expand it to M.Cube. The Shenzhen M.Cube to be opened in the first half of next year will be operated as a base specialized for artificial intelligence and big data.

It will focus on securing self-driving and connectivity technologies that are optimized for local markets along with Chinese startups.

"Shenzhen is now changing from a city that represents Chinese manufacturers to a center of the fourth industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence. It has the best environment to find good startups," a Hyundai Mobis official said.
