SK Telecom's own media service has been recognized worldwide for its technical skills.
SK Telecom announced on October 9 that it won the "Media Service Innovation Award" at the Global Telecom Awards (GTA) held in London, the U.K. on October 8.
GTA is an event that selects one of the world's best telecommunication businesses by area and is organized by "Informa", a global ICT research institute. It selects companies that have achieved innovative results in 14 categories such as telecommunication services, infrastructure, security, and AI over a year.
The award-winning service is "Oksusu Social VR". SK Telecom and SK Broadband have been providing "Oksusu Social VR" service that combines social community functions to their mobile OTT service "Oksusu" since October this year.
"Oksusu Social VR" is a service that allows users to use VR devices and communicate with up to eight participants in virtual reality while watching video content such as sports, movies, and dramas.
SK Telecom is planning to upgrade "Oksusu Social VR" to UHD image level that is up to 16 times clearer than full HD when 5G is commercialized in the future. It will also activate various services such as games, commerce, advertisements and others that connect virtual reality to reality.
"Oksusu Social VR is a symbolic service developed by SK Telecom using T real platform based on AR/VR technologies," said Lee Jong-min, head of SK Telecom's Media Technology Institute. "Based on technical know-how we have built so far, we will lead innovative media services even in the 5G era,"
