A number of caterpillars were found in the "Nude Pepero" product made by Lotte Confectionery. Controversy is expected to intensify as bugs have been found in Pepero several times in the past.
A consumer, Mr. A, who discovered bugs reported the fact to Lotte Confectionery' customer service center and Consumer Protection Agency. His two children found several caterpillars while eating Lotte Confectionery's Nude Pepero. They bought buggy products at a mart. His children bought one Pepero and several other snacks together.
The photo sent by Mr. A contained an estimated 10 caterpillars attached to the snack. His wife had reported the discovery of the worm to Lotte Confectionery' customer service center and a Lotte official said he would visit home on Nov. 12. Mr. A said, "I'm worried if my wife can respond by herself." He added that he informed the Consumer Protection Agency of the same information.
"We need to find out the exact cause," a Lotte Confectionery official said. Several bugs have been discovered in Lotte Confectionery's Pepero in 2015, 2013, and 2011.
