About 250 executives and employees were evacuated at Samsung Electronics' Giheung workplace, which is a production line for semiconductors. At 9:57 a.m. on Nov. 21, 119 received a report that Samsung Electronics' Giheung 6-1 line in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province emitted a smell of gas.

There were no casualties or property damage. The fire authorities controlled the entire building and injected the people wearing chemical protective suits inside to check for gas leaks.

Fire authorities estimate that a small amount of gas-type chemicals such as C5F8 have leaked from the gas storage room within the line. In addition, they are investigating the possibility that the machine might be malfunctioning.

C5F8 is a toxic gas, and all alarms in gas storage rooms and gas supplies sounded during the leak, Samsung explained.
Related agencies, such as fire authorities and the Environment Ministry, have completed safety measures such as internal air purification work. The final gas measurement was made around 12:40 p.m. and no hazardous gas was detected. It was confirmed that there was no gas leakage outside the building.

"Alarms that detect gas leakage at Samsung Electronics' semiconductor plant are operating." said a representative for Samsung Electronics. After the recent carbon dioxide accidents, we  immediately report any alarm to outside organizations and respond to it quickly," a Samsung official said.
