SK Telecom is going to implement ICT telecommunication welfare by sharing its distribution network and ICT technologies with society.

SK Telecom said on November 22 that it will push for a "happiness community project" to solve social problems and create social value through sharing its ICT infrastructure.

According to a Korea Consumer Agency survey, 97.8 percent of people aged 75 and over have difficulty using smartphone mobile apps.

The need for ICT welfare is growing as the number of elderly Koreans living alone is expected to grow sharply from 1.2 million in 2015 to 1.97 million in 2025.

In response, SK Telecom started ICT education for the local community at 54 direct offices nationwide from November 19.

In addition, it will support social enterprises that provide ICT care services to create local jobs.

SK Telecom has started training on using smartphones for silver generation customers at 54 stores nationwide.

Education provides education on how to use apps, such as finance, payment, and reservation, which are difficult for older people to use. And more stores will be opened for education.

SK Telecom plans to strengthen its business to take care of the elderly and the disabled by sharing its ICT technology and distribution network infrastructure to the government, local governments and social businesses.

Social businesses that are supported by SK Telecom's ICT technology use voice recognition AI called 'Who' to relieve the loneliness of the elderly.

SK Telecom plans to add customized services to the AI's emotional conversation, music, weather, news, and fortunetelling functions to play the role of a friend of the elderly.

It will also monitor the environment of the elderly living alone and provide health care solutions through IoT sensors.

President Park Jung-ho of SK Telecom said, "We will make efforts to build a happy community by sharing ICT technologies."
