Seoul Semiconductor said on Nov. 27 that it filed an additional patent infringement suit against the U.S. large home electronics distributor, Fry's Electronics, in a federal court in Texas.

Seoul Semiconductor argued that many TV products other than the global brand Phillips, which are sold by Fry's Electronics, infringed on the 19 patents of the Seoul Semiconductor, including the Wicop technology, chip, PKG, lens and backlight system.

On August 31, Seoul Semiconductor already filed a lawsuit against the distributor for patent infringement.

Seoul Semiconductor has been conducting continuous lawsuits and warning activities to protect its core technology. After years of litigation, the U.S. federal appeals court ruled on Nov. 19 that a foreign competitor intentionally infringed upon Seoul Semiconductor's patents for LED lens and backlight modules.

The ruling also stated that Lumens, a South Korean PKG company, supplied its products to TV companies that used Seoul Semiconductor's patents.

Yoo Seung-min, vice president in charge of the IT business at Seoul Semiconductor, said, "We hope that our tenacity for patent will be a good success story for small businesses and start-ups."
