It has been confirmed that an executive of Philips Korea abruptly resigned after being disciplined for his serious power trip on employees for many years amid the controversy over the soft punishment.
According to Philips Korea, A, the executive of the company's health system (medical device business) was suspended for a month at the end of last month for assaulting employees and using abusive language. However, he resigned early this month and left the company.
"The one-month suspension is a severe punishment according to the internal regulations," the Minju newspaper quoted a Philips Korea official as saying.
The sudden departure of the managing director has made it impossible for the company to take further disciplinary action. Earlier, the company said in a daily newspaper that it would consider additional personnel measures other than the regular one. Although some pointed out that the punishment was too light for him, it became useless.
According to the daily newspaper, which first reported the wrongdoing of the executive, he has been using abusive words and sexually harassing his subordinates for years. Nevertheless, he was promoted from director to executive director early this year.
According to the reports, the executive reportedly slapped a manager-level employee without reason at a dinner party in May 2016 and shook the head of a worker who was a staff near the dining room in late 2014.
"The company was informed of the executive's alleged serious power trip on employees through the hotline and submitted it to the personnel committee after conducting its own investigation. We will deal sternly with such a controversy, and make every effort to prevent such a thing from happening again," said an official from Philip Korea.
