The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) are expressing their opinions that a recent media report on the abrupt shift to a competitive bid for USE nuclear power plant is different from the fact.

The UAE plant`s long-term maintenance contract (LTMA) is in the middle of a competitive bid, and the KHNP-KEPCO consortium is now participating in the bid. The selection of the winner is expected to come in the near future, they said.

Noting that the LTMA is a contract that has entered the competitive bidding process since the first half of 2017, they stressed that the contract amount and duration have not been decided yet, and the related agencies such as the government and KHNP plan to do their best for winning the contract based on their competitiveness.

The content of the 54 trillion won in sales for 60 years announced by KEPCO is the estimated sales figure in the future through KEPCO's equity investments. The media report that KEPCO has secured an exclusive management right for 60 years is also different from the content announced by KEPCO in 2016, they said.

It is also not true that the UAE asked several times about how to procure parts in the event of a nuclear power plant problem if South Korea pushes for the policy to escape from nuclear power generation, they added.
