LG Uplus announced on December 4 that it has developed an integrated optical cable monitoring system that can systematically manage wired optical cables built between base stations and relay stations and identify causes and locations of failures in real time.
This optical cable monitoring system is Korea's first integrated optical cable management system that provides both Optical Time-Domain Reflector (OTDR) and Optical Power Meter (OPM).
OTDR is a technology that measures the loss, location, and distance of optical cables. OPM is a technology that measures quality by analyzing service light signals and measures quality.
The integrated optical cable monitoring system can manage the quality of the optical cables by simultaneously monitoring the light waves used for up to 160,000 optical cables and 5G services within the optical cables.
LG Uplus is planning to apply this system to 5G network sections and continuously develop solutions with manufacturers to increase quality of cables.
"With the development of integrated optical cable monitoring system, we will be able to provide high-quality service without loss of 5G services," said Lee Sang-hun, a NW developer of LG Uplus.
