It was known that prosecutors raided Kim & Chang, Korea's largest law firm, in relation to the investigation into a trail deal on forced conscription between the Office of Court Administration at the time of former Chief Justice Yang Seung-tae and the Park Geun-hye government.
It is the first time that Kim & Chang was raided by the prosecution. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said on Dec. 3 that it raided the offices of two lawyers at Kim & Chang on Nov. 12.
The lawyer, A, who served as a senior presidential secretary for justice for the Park Geun-hye government during the period from February 2015 to May 2016, is suspected of playing a mediator role between the court administration office and Cheong Wa Dae.
The lawyer is also suspected of forcing the Foreign Ministry to submit a written opinion to reverse the decision of the Supreme Court, which supported the victims of the forced conscription.
In response to this, the Bareunmirae Party said on Dec. 3, "Kim & Chang's unpainted face has been revealed. We should establish justice by thoroughly investigating the arrogance and illegal activities of power."
The party also criticized saying, "The prosecution's investigation has revealed that Kim & Chang was deeply involved in the process, including the delay of the former Chief Justice Yang Seung-tae-led Supreme Court's trial."
