The Samsung Welfare Foundation held an extraordinary board of directors' meeting on Dec. 6 and appointed Lee Seo-hyun, former president of Samsung C&T's fashion division, as its new chairman. Lee will have four years in office and is scheduled to take office on Jan. 1 next year.
Lee, the second daughter of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee, is said to be the right person to inherit the purpose of the foundation and further develop its social contribution projects. Lee has been conducting various social contribution activities for underprivileged youths and regional communities.
Samsung Welfare Foundation was founded by Chairman Lee Kun-hee in 1989 to create a foundation for self-reliance of the underprivileged and promote public welfare projects. It is currently conducting the Dream Class scholarship program and childcare services for daycare centers.
Meanwhile, the Leeum Museum of Art has decided to set up an operation committee to discuss and advise on major matters for the development of the museum, and appointed Lee Seo-hyun as the chairman of the operation committee.
