Related to the KTX train derailment accident, the Liberty Korea Party said on Dec. 9 that it was almost a moment that led to a major disaster and the Korea Railroad Corp. (KORAIL)’s follow-up measures were all messy.
Yoon Young-seok, a senior spokesman for the opposition Liberty Korea Party, said in a commentary, "The passengers who were injured were not able to walk due to the leanings of the passenger car. But after writing down personal information of the injured person in the accident, KORAIL sent a text message asking them to call the nearest station if they want to see a doctor."
"Although KORAIL estimated that the cause of the derailment was an disorder in a track caused by the sudden drop in temperature, we think that this is nothing but an excuse to escape from the responsibility," he said.
"There have been 10 accidents in the railroad section run by KORAIL for the last three weeks, and on average, about once every two days," Yoon said. "At this point, we wonder if the railroad is the safest mode for the people to use."
Yoon added, "We strongly urge the government to take stern measures against those in charge and to conduct a comprehensive safety inspection and map out countermeasures at the national level, rather than come up with only follow-up measures, to ensure a safe life for the people.
