KT announced on December 14 that it has succeeded in commercializing Cellular V2X (Vehicle to Everything) for the first time in Korea. It collaborated with IT Telecom.
C-V2X is a technology that detects and communicates situations between vehicles-vehicles, vehicles-pedestrians, and vehicle-traffic infrastructure in real time. It can even deliver information that is difficult to detect with sensors or cameras installed in vehicles.
The C-V2X will be equipped with self-driving cars and will be tested on test beds in Seoul, Daegu and Pangyo.
In addition, 5G-V2X vehicle terminals with added 5G communication are under development.
KT has developed safer self-driving technology by combining 5G with self-driving technology. Based on these technologies, it has introduced 5G self-driving cars in Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, 5G self-driving buses in Pangyo, self-driving experience in Yeongdong-daero, and K-City.
"KT will continue to provide a blueprint for future vehicle services," said Jeon Hong-beom, head of KT Convergence Technology Institute.
