Ssangyong Motor Co. said that the sales of Rexton Sports, which was launched in January, has exceeded 40,000 units in Korea. This is the biggest performance in the first year of its release among sports brands, the company said on Dec. 21.
Rexton Sports surpassed 2,500 preorders in just four days and exceeded 10,000 accumulated contracts in just a month after release. In addition, the company sold more than 4,000 units for four months starting from June, renewing its maximum performance, contributing to Ssangyong`s growth in the domestic market.
Last October, Rexton Sports posted 33,658 accumulated sales, surpassing its goal of annual 30,000 cars. This time, it surpassed 40,000 domestic sales (as of Dec. 20), making a new history of achieving more than 10,000 units than its annual target. It is the best record among Ssangyong Motor's sports brands.
The company said that Rexton Sports is loved beyond expectations for its unique competitiveness, including its excellent driving ability that encompasses the on and off roads and its overwhelming loading space provided by an open-type deck.
Ssangyong Motor plans to continue its upward trend in the Korean market. It attended Ecuador and Paraguay motor shows in October and November, respectively, to introduce Rexton Sports (local name Musso). It is also planning to secure global markets by establishing an Australian corporation this month and advancing into the Middle East and African markets in the first half of next year.
